Admiral Richard E. Byrd was an American explorer who is best known for his expeditions to Antarctica. He was the first person to fly over both the North and South Poles, and he also led several expeditions to Antarctica, including the 1928-1930 expedition which was the first to explore the continent's interior. He was given the title of Admiral in the United States Navy in recognition of his accomplishments.
