Estes Kefauver was the running mate of Adlai Stevenson during the 1956 presidential election. Kefauver, a senator from Tennessee, was chosen to be Stevenson's running mate in order to help him gain support in the South. Kefauver was a popular figure in the Democratic Party and had previously run for president in 1952. He was ultimately unsuccessful in his bid for the White House, but his selection as Stevenson's running mate helped to solidify the Democratic ticket.
