Yin is the counterpart of Yang in Chinese philosophy. Yin is the dark, passive, and feminine principle while Yang is the light, active, and masculine principle. Together, they represent the two opposite yet complementary forces that make up the universe. Yin and Yang are often represented by a circle divided into two halves, one black and one white, with a small circle of the opposite color in each half.
