Alice Walker is an American novelist, poet, and activist. She is best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Color Purple, as well as her other novels, short stories, and essays. She is also an advocate for civil rights and women's rights, and has been a major voice in the African-American literary tradition.
