Fran Lebowitz is an American author, public speaker, and actor. She is best known for her sardonic social commentary on American life as filtered through her New York City sensibilities. She is the author of two books of essays, Metropolitan Life (1978) and Social Studies (1981). She has also appeared in several films and television series, including Martin Scorsese's documentary Public Speaking (2010).
