Writer Brendan Behan was an Irish poet, novelist, and playwright. He was born in Dublin in 1923 and is best known for his autobiographical works such as Borstal Boy and The Quare Fellow. He was a member of the Irish Republican Army and was imprisoned for his involvement in the Irish War of Independence. He was also an active participant in the Irish literary revival of the 1950s and 1960s. Behan's writing style was often humorous and irreverent, and he was known for his wit and sharp tongue. He died in 1964 at the age of 41.
