The term WOUND MEMENTO consists of two words, SCAR and SCAB. A SCAR is a mark left on the skin after a wound or injury has healed. It is usually raised and discolored, and can be a reminder of the event that caused it. A SCAB is a crusty, protective layer of dried blood and tissue that forms over a wound to protect it from infection. It eventually falls off as the wound heals. Both scars and scabs are physical reminders of wounds and injuries, and can serve as mementos of the event.
