The World Trade Center was a complex of seven buildings in Lower Manhattan, New York City, United States. It was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The site is now being rebuilt with six new skyscrapers and a memorial to the victims of the attacks. The original complex was designed by Minoru Yamasaki and Emery Roth & Sons and was completed in 1973. The World Trade Center was the tallest building in the world until it was surpassed by the Sears Tower in 1974.
