It is characterized by a steady, repetitive left hand bass pattern and a right hand playing syncopated melodies. BOOGIE-woogie is often associated with the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s, but it has been popular throughout the 20th century. BOOGIE-woogie is also sometimes referred to as 'barrelhouse' or 'STRIDE' piano.
