Woodwind is a family of musical instruments that are played by blowing air through a REED, or through a mouthpiece. The most common woodwind instruments are the FLUTE, OBOE, REED, saxophone, and CLARINET. The FLUTE is a slender tube of metal or wood with holes along its length that are covered and uncovered to produce different notes. The OBOE is a double-REED instrument with a conical bore and a curved metal bell. The REED is a single-REED instrument with a cylindrical bore and a straight metal bell. The saxophone is a single-REED instrument with a conical bore and a curved metal bell. The CLARINET is a single-REED instrument with a cylindrical bore and a straight metal bell.
