Leo McGarry is a fictional character from the television series The West Wing, portrayed by actor John Spencer. He is the White House Chief of Staff and a close friend and confidant of President Josiah Bartlet. LEO is a recovering alcoholic and former Secretary of Labor who was appointed to the position of Chief of Staff after the previous Chief resigned. He is a strong leader and mentor to the staff, and is known for his loyalty and dedication to the President.
