Audie Murphy was a World War II hero who is best known for his bravery and courage in battle. He was the most decorated American soldier of the war, receiving every military combat award for valor available from the U.S. Army, as well as French and Belgian awards for heroism. Murphy was born in Texas in 1924 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He fought in several major battles in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge, and was promoted to the rank of Major at the age of 20. After the war, he became an actor and starred in several films, including To Hell and Back, which was based on his autobiography.
