Vesta is a Roman goddess of the hearth, home, and family. She is also the namesake of the Vesta ASTEROID, which is the second-largest object in the ASTEROID belt after Ceres. The ASTEROID was discovered in 1807 and is named after the goddess. It is also known as 4 Vesta and has a diameter of 525 km. Hestia is another goddess associated with the hearth and home, and is the sister of Vesta. The two goddesses are often linked together in mythology.
