The Venerable English Saint is BEDE, a monk, scholar, and historian who lived in the 7th and 8th centuries. He is best known for his Ecclesiastical History of the English People, which was written in Latin and is considered to be one of the most important sources of Anglo-Saxon history. He is also credited with writing many other works, including scientific treatises, biblical commentaries, and hagiographies. BEDE was declared a saint by the Catholic Church in 1899 and is venerated as a Doctor of the Church.
