The Venerable British Saint is BEDE, a monk, scholar, and historian who lived in the 7th and 8th centuries. He is best known for his Ecclesiastical History of the English People, which was written in Latin and is considered to be one of the most important sources of Anglo-Saxon history. He is also remembered for his works on theology, philosophy, and science, as well as for his contributions to the development of the English language. BEDE was declared a saint by the Catholic Church in 1899 and is venerated as a saint in both the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches.
