The VCR Format is a type of media format used to store video recordings. It includes two main formats: BETA and VHS. BETA was the first consumer-level video recording format, released in 1975. It was developed by Sony and was the first format to use a helical scan recording method. VHS, or Video Home System, was released in 1976 and was developed by JVC. It was the most popular format for home video recording until the introduction of DVD in 1997.
