The aortic valve is a heart part that is responsible for controlling the flow of blood from the left ventricle to the aorta. It is a one-way valve that opens and closes with each heartbeat, allowing oxygen-rich blood to be pumped out of the heart and into the body. The aortic valve is made up of three leaflets that open and close in response to pressure changes within the heart. When the pressure in the left ventricle is higher than the pressure in the aorta, the leaflets open, allowing blood to flow out of the heart. When the pressure in the aorta is higher than the pressure in the left ventricle, the leaflets close, preventing backflow of blood.
