Osiris is an underworld deity in ancient Egyptian mythology. He is the god of the afterlife, the underworld, and rebirth. He is usually depicted as a green-skinned man with a pharaoh's beard, partially mummy-wrapped at the legs, wearing a distinctive crown with two large ostrich feathers at either side, and holding a symbolic crook and flail. Osiris is the brother and husband of Isis, with whom he fathered Horus. He was murdered by his brother Set, who then assumed the throne. Osiris' death and resurrection were symbols of the cycle of Nile floods and the rebirth of the land.
