The U.S. Rail Service is commonly referred to as AMTRAK. It is a government-owned corporation that provides intercity passenger train service in the United States and Canada. AMTRAK operates more than 300 trains daily on 21, 400 miles of track. It is the only intercity passenger rail system in the United States and is the second largest passenger rail system in the world. AMTRAK serves more than 500 destinations in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and three Canadian provinces.
