The U.S. Chief Justice from 1953 to 1969 was Earl Warren. He was a Republican politician and the 30th Governor of California before being appointed Chief Justice by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. During his tenure, he presided over some of the most important cases in the history of the Supreme Court, including Brown v. Board of Education, which declared racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional.
