The Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) is a United States Army medal awarded to those who have distinguished themselves by extraordinary heroism in combat with an armed enemy. It is the second highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of the U.S. Army, and is generally considered the equivalent of the Navy Cross and the Air Force Cross. The DSC was established in 1918 and is awarded for acts of heroism performed under enemy fire or in the face of great personal risk.
