Nat Turner was an African-American slave who led a rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia in 1831. He was a preacher and a literate slave who had visions that he believed were from God. He believed that it was his mission to lead a rebellion against slavery and free the slaves. He gathered a group of followers and launched a revolt that resulted in the deaths of around 60 white people. Turner was eventually captured and executed for his actions.
