Nat Turner was an African-American slave who led a rebellion in 1831 in Southampton County, Virginia. He was a preacher and a literate slave who had a vision of leading his people to freedom. The revolt he led was the most successful slave uprising in American history. Nat Turner's rebellion resulted in the deaths of 55 white people and over 200 African-Americans. Turner was eventually captured and executed for his role in the rebellion. His legacy has been remembered as a symbol of resistance against slavery.
