Nat Turner was an African-American slave who led a rebellion in 1831 in Southampton County, Virginia. He was a deeply religious man who had visions that he believed were messages from God. He believed that it was his mission to lead his people out of slavery. His rebellion was unsuccessful and he was eventually captured and executed. Nat Turner is remembered as one of the most important figures in American history for his role in the struggle against slavery.
