Nat Turner was an African-American slave who led a rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia in 1831. He was born into slavery and was a preacher who had visions that he believed were from God. He believed that it was his mission to lead his people out of bondage. He gathered a group of followers and launched a revolt against the white slave owners in the area. The revolt was ultimately unsuccessful and Turner was captured and executed. Nat Turner is remembered as a symbol of resistance to slavery and oppression.
