The Turkish Council, also known as the DIVAN, is an advisory body to the Ottoman Empire. It was established in the 15th century and was composed of members of the Ottoman ruling class. The DIVAN was responsible for advising the Sultan on matters of state, including foreign policy, military strategy, and taxation. The DIVAN was abolished in 1876 following the establishment of the modern Republic of Turkey.
