Cole Porter was an American composer and songwriter who wrote some of the most popular songs of the 20th century. He was known as a tunesmith, meaning he was able to write both the music and lyrics for his songs. He was born in 1891 and died in 1964. He wrote over 1, 000 songs, including 'Night and Day, ' 'I Get a Kick Out of You, ' and 'Anything Goes.' He was also a Broadway composer, writing musicals such as Kiss Me, Kate and Anything Goes.
