Trot and Canter are two of the three common GAITS of a horse. Trot is a two-beat gait in which the horse moves its legs in diagonal pairs, while Canter is a three-beat gait in which the horse moves its legs in a sequence of left-right-left or right-left-right. Both GAITS are faster than the walk, but slower than the gallop. Trot and Canter are used for riding, racing, and other activities involving horses.
