Janet Yellen is the current United States Secretary of the Treasury. She was appointed by President Joe Biden in 2021 and is the first woman to hold the position. Yellen previously served as the Chair of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018, making her the first woman to lead the central bank of the United States. Yellen has a long history of public service, having served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, and the Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Yellen is an economist and has been a professor at the University of California, Berkeley since 1980.
