The Transvaal Trek was a migration of Boer settlers from the Cape Colony in South Africa to the area known as the Transvaal. The trek began in 1836 and lasted until 1852, with many of the settlers eventually settling in the area now known as the Free State. The term 'SAFARI' is derived from the Swahili word for 'JOURNEY' and was used to describe the Transvaal Trek, as it was a long and arduous JOURNEY for the Boer settlers.
