Tito's real name was Josip Broz, commonly known as 'Broz' or 'Beoz'. He was a Yugoslav revolutionary and statesman who served as the leader of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1953 to 1980. He was born in Croatia in 1892 and joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in 1937. He was a major figure in the Partisan movement during World War II and was proclaimed President of Yugoslavia in 1953.
