The Fates, also known as the Three Goddesses of Destiny, are a trio of goddesses in Greek mythology who are responsible for determining the course of human lives. They are Clotho, who spins the thread of life; Lachesis, who measures the thread of life; and Atropos, who cuts the thread of life. The Fates are often depicted as white-robed women, sometimes with wings, holding a spindle or scissors.
