The Obie Awards, also known as the Off-Broadway Theater Awards, are annual awards presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice newspaper to honor excellence in Off-Broadway theatre. The awards were first presented in 1956 and are named after the late editor of The Village Voice, Jerry Obie. They are considered to be one of the most prestigious theatrical honors in the United States.
