Eric the Red was a Viking explorer who is most famous for his settlement of Greenland in the 10th century. He is also known for his exploration of North America, which he named Vinland. Eric the Red was born in Norway and later moved to Iceland, where he was exiled for three years due to a murder. After his exile, he sailed to Greenland and established a settlement there. He died in Greenland in the year 1003.
