The Mikado Setting is the fictional town of Titipu, located in JAPAN. It is the setting for Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera The Mikado. The opera is set in a mythical version of JAPAN, where the characters are all Japanese but the dialogue is in English. The story follows the adventures of Nanki-Poo, a young man who has been banished from the court of the Mikado, the ruler of JAPAN. He falls in love with Yum-Yum, a beautiful young woman who is engaged to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner. The opera is filled with humor and satire, as well as some of the most beloved music in the Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire.
