The Elgin Marbles are a collection of ancient Greek sculptures and architectural pieces that were removed from the Parthenon in Athens by Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, in the early 19th century. The sculptures were then taken to Britain and have been housed in the British Museum since 1816. The Elgin Marbles are considered to be one of the most important collections of ancient Greek art in the world.
