Ida Lupino was an English-American actress, director, and screenwriter. She is best known for her work in the 1950s as a director of feature films, becoming the first woman to direct a film noir, The Hitch-Hiker. Lupino was also one of the few female directors working in Hollywood during the time. She was also an accomplished actress, appearing in over 50 films and television shows throughout her career.
