James AGEE was an American novelist, poet, screenwriter, and journalist. He is best known for his scriptwriting for the 1951 classic film The African Queen, which was based on the 1935 novel of the same name by C. S. Forester. AGEE wrote the screenplay with John Huston, who directed the film. AGEE also wrote the novel A Death in the Family, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1958. AGEE's work has been praised for its lyrical beauty and its insight into human nature.
