The term 'Tempter of Odysseus' is referring to the Sirens, mythical creatures from Greek mythology. They were beautiful female creatures who sang enchanting songs that lured sailors to their death. Odysseus was warned of the Sirens' power and instructed his crew to plug their ears with beeswax so they could not hear the Sirens' song. He, however, wanted to hear the song and had himself tied to the mast of his ship so he could not be tempted to steer the ship towards them.
