William 'BOSS' Tweed was the leader of Tammany Hall, a political organization in New York City during the mid-19th century. He was known for his corrupt practices and was eventually convicted of fraud and sent to prison. Tweed was a powerful figure in the city's politics and was able to use his influence to gain control of the city's finances. He was eventually removed from office and died in jail in 1878.
