The term 'Swimmer Mark' is a reference to the American swimmer, Mark Spitz. He is a nine-time Olympic gold medalist and former world record holder in swimming. He won seven gold medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, an achievement surpassed only by Michael Phelps who won eight golds at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1977.
