The Sumatran Orangutan is a species of great ape found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. They are the most critically endangered of all the great apes, with an estimated population of fewer than 14, 000 individuals. They are highly intelligent and social animals, living in complex social groups and exhibiting a wide range of behaviors. They are also highly threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and poaching.
