The Sumatran Ape, also known as the Orangutan, is an endangered species of great ape native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is the only exclusively Asian species of great ape, and is the most arboreal of the great apes. The Sumatran Ape is an intelligent and social animal, and is known for its use of tools and complex communication. It is listed as critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching.
