Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a form of scarring on the skin caused by rapid stretching or shrinking of the skin. They are usually seen in areas such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, breasts, and upper arms. Stretch marks are most common during pregnancy, puberty, and periods of rapid weight gain or loss. They can also be caused by certain medical conditions, such as Cushing's syndrome.
