The term 'Star Trek Engineer' is a reference to two characters from the popular science fiction franchise Star Trek. The first character is Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott, or 'Scotty, ' who was played by actor James Doohan in the original series and its subsequent films. The second character is his nephew, Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge, or 'Scott, ' who was played by actor LeVar Burton in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Both characters were responsible for maintaining and repairing the starship Enterprise's systems and equipment.
