Gene Roddenberry was an American television producer and screenwriter best known for creating the science fiction series Star Trek. He was born in El Paso, Texas in 1921 and served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he began writing scripts for television shows such as Have Gun – Will Travel and The Twilight Zone. In 1964, he created the original Star Trek series, which ran for three seasons and spawned multiple spin-offs, films, and other related media. Roddenberry was also involved in the development of other science fiction series such as Andromeda and Earth: Final Conflict. He died in 1991 at the age of 70.
