A spermatazoon is a male GAMETE, or reproductive cell, that is responsible for fertilizing an egg. It is one of two types of gametes, the other being the female GAMETE, or ovum. The spermatazoon is produced in the testes and is composed of a head, midpiece, and tail. The head contains the nucleus, which contains genetic material, while the midpiece and tail are used for locomotion. When it comes into contact with an egg, the spermatazoon releases enzymes that break down the egg's outer membrane, allowing it to enter and fertilize the egg.
