Stalactites are a common sight in spelunking, or cave exploration. They are formed when water containing dissolved minerals seeps through the ceiling of a cave and deposits the minerals as it evaporates. Stalactites hang from the ceiling of a cave and can be made of limestone, gypsum, or other minerals. They often have an icicle-like shape and can range in size from a few centimeters to several meters in length.
