Some Native Nebraskans are members of the Otoe and Omaha tribes, commonly referred to as the Otoe-Missouria and the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska. The Otoe-Missouria are a federally recognized tribe located in Oklahoma and Nebraska, while the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized tribe located in Nebraska. Both tribes have a long history in the region, with the Otoe-Missouria having been present in the area since the 1700s and the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska since the 1800s. The Otoe and Omaha tribes are often abbreviated to OTOES and OTOS respectively.
