Georg Solti was a Hungarian-born British conductor who is widely regarded as one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century. He was the music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1969 to 1991 and was also the principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra from 1979 to 1983. Solti was knighted in 1971 and received numerous awards throughout his career, including 31 Grammy Awards. He was also the first conductor to receive the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun in 1987.
